A Spooky Night in Downtown Little Rock

As the sun disappeared and the streets of downtown Little Rock grew quieter, our ghostly adventure began. The extended tour takes you deeper into the city’s haunted history, sharing stories of tragic events, restless spirits, and unexplained paranormal activity tied to some of Little Rock’s most historic locations.

What made this experience especially fun was the atmosphere. Walking through the city at night completely changes the vibe. Buildings that seem ordinary during the day suddenly feel mysterious when illuminated by dim streetlights and shadowy alleyways. Our guide, Erica, was especially knowledgeable, and her personal paranormal interactions added to the experience overall.

Locations included on the basic tour include the Capital Hotel (which you actually get to go inside), the McVicar House, Curran Hall, and Trapnall Hall.

We Added the EMF Detectors

To make the experience even more interactive, we added the EMF detectors to our tour package. If you’ve ever watched paranormal investigation shows, you’ve probably seen investigators using these devices to detect fluctuations in electromagnetic fields.

Throughout the tour, we had several moments where the detectors unexpectedly lit up, which definitely added to the suspense of the evening. Whether you’re a full believer in the paranormal or just enjoy the thrill of ghost stories, the EMF detectors make the tour even more entertaining.

One surprising moment was when they went off fully red when we passed the church that was not supposed to be haunted. There was also a construction site nearby. Our guide told us she always felt like there was a presence in this area and the EMF detectors agreed.

Our favorite part of the extended tour was visiting MacArthur Park. This is the site where the first human dissection in Arkansas took place. Tales of children’s voices, moving swings, and a man disappearing while walking through the park are told.

Our Own Paranormal Moments

Of course, no ghost tour would be complete without a few eerie moments of our own.

During our evening exploring haunted Little Rock, we experienced several strange occurrences that definitely made us question whether the spirits were trying to make contact. At the historic Capital Hotel, the elevator doors nearly shut on me unexpectedly, creating one of those “wait… did that really just happen?” moments.

Near the McVicar House, Morgan noticed street lights flickering repeatedly around us, adding even more creepy atmosphere to the evening. And throughout multiple locations on the tour, our EMF detectors lit up unexpectedly.

And for some reason, at Curran Hall, Morgan stepped on a thimble on her way down the steps. We never figured out where that could have come from, considering the house was locked, and we were never allowed to enter. We asked our guide about it, and she didn’t seem to know much about it. Some ghosts leave “calling cards” such as small buttons, thimbles, and other trinkets to let you know they are there. If you find one, it is best to leave it there so as to not disturb the site.

In paranormal folklore, objects that mysteriously appear in unexpected places are sometimes referred to as “apports,” a term used in spiritualism and ghost lore for unexplained appearing objects.

A Few Cons for this Tour

We especially loved how the guides balanced historical facts with storytelling. The haunted history and paranormal tales kept the experience engaging throughout the evening. One thing to keep in mind is that the tour moves at a fairly brisk walking pace at times, and one guest in our group had some difficulty keeping up, so this may be worth considering if anyone in your party has mobility concerns or prefers a slower pace.

Another thing we experienced was that, at the end of the tour, the guide pointed guests in the direction back to the starting area rather than physically walking the group back to the original meeting point. If you are unfamiliar with downtown Little Rock, especially after dark, this is something to plan for ahead of time. We suggest being aware of your surroundings in any unfamiliar city after dark. Even with those considerations, it was still a fun and memorable way to experience a different side of the city and add a spooky twist to a trip to Little Rock.
