Why Explore Haunted Arkansas?

Arkansas is rich with history—Civil War battlefields, frontier towns, grand hotels, and even old bathhouses. Where there’s history, there are often stories of restless spirits. From ghost tours in historic cities to hidden haunted geocaches in the woods, you’ll find both spine-tingling and family-friendly options for your adventures.

Exploring Haunted Arkansas is also a perfect way to:

  • Add unique stops to your family road trips.
  • Combine history and mystery in one adventure.
  • Create Halloween travel traditions without leaving the state.
  • Planning Tip: If you’re road-tripping at night, a reliable travel flashlight is a must.

Haunted Arkansas Highlights

As someone who loves both family adventures and a good ghost story, I’ve explored some of these places myself (and yes, sometimes with a flashlight in hand!). Whether you’re chasing chills or just want a fun seasonal outing, here are some of the top spots to add to your Haunted Arkansas bucket list.

Here are a few of the spooky adventures you can explore (with links to my posts so you can plan your trip!):

👻 Haunted Hot Springs

Bathhouse Row may look elegant and relaxing, but beneath the surface are chilling tales of gangsters, ghosts, and mysterious happenings. Don’t miss the Hot Springs Haunted Tours for an after-dark walk through history.

🪦 Haunted Geocaches

One of my favorite ways to combine family fun with a spooky adventure is geocaching. Believe it or not, Arkansas has had some haunted-themed caches that made the hunt even more exciting.

If you love geocaching, Arkansas (and neighboring Oklahoma) has some truly spooky hides. From cemeteries with local legends to creative caches that bring ghost stories to life, geocaching adds an adventurous twist to haunted travel.

Geocaching at night? Don’t forget a UV flashlight (great for caches with glow-in-the-dark clues) and a small travel backpack to carry your logbook and swaps.

🏚️ Haunted Hotels & Inns

Arkansas is home to famous haunted accommodations like the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs—often called America’s most haunted hotel. Whether or not you believe in ghosts, staying overnight is an unforgettable experience. (Full blog coming soon!)

🏞️ Spooky State Parks & Trails

Some Arkansas state parks have local ghost stories attached—perfect for mixing hiking, biking, and camping with a dose of mystery. During the summer of 2025 two people were brutally murdered on one of the hiking trails. It makes one wonder if it is now haunted.

Keep an eye out for Adventure Labs and geocaches that add to the haunted fun. (Stay tuned for my Haunted State Parks series!)

Comfortable shoes are essential—especially if you’re walking through cemeteries or on ghost tours. I recommend these lightweight hiking shoes.

Haunted Road Trips & Day Trips

One of the best ways to experience Haunted Arkansas is to plan a spooky road trip. Mix in haunted attractions, historic cemeteries, quirky ghost tours, and small-town legends. I’ll be sharing itineraries for day trips and weekend getaways in upcoming posts.

Plan Your Own Haunted Arkansas Adventure

Whether you’re a family with kids looking for ghost tours that aren’t too scary, or thrill-seekers ready to spend the night in a haunted hotel, Arkansas has something for every ghost hunter.

✨ Pro Tip: Pair your haunted stops with fall festivals, pumpkin patches, or state park adventures for a well-rounded family getaway.

Family-Friendly Ghost Tours

Not every haunted outing has to give kids nightmares. Arkansas and nearby states offer fun, kid-appropriate ghost tours that mix local history with just the right amount of spooky storytelling. Haunted trolley rides, lantern-lit walks, or even glow-in-the-dark mini golf can make October extra special.
