🎃 From Halloweentown to Haystack Rock: My October Weekend Getaway Plans

If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into a Halloween movie, walking along a foggy beach with crashing waves, or standing in front of Oregon’s tallest waterfall, then you’re going to love what I have planned! This October, I’m heading out on a quick weekend getaway to St. Helens, Oregon—better known as Halloweentown—with a bonus day trip to Cannon Beach and a scenic stop at the stunning Multnomah Falls before I fly home.

And I want to take you along for the ride—virtually, of course!

🎃 Friday & Saturday: Welcome to Spirit of Halloweentown

From October 17–19, the charming riverside town of St. Helens transforms into a spooky celebration straight out of the Disney Channel movie Halloweentown. Yes, the real filming location! I’ll be visiting during the Spirit of Halloweentown Festival, where the iconic giant pumpkin returns to the courthouse plaza, and the streets are filled with costumed visitors, spooky attractions, themed vendors, and plenty of photo ops.

Here’s what I’ll be doing in St. Helens:

  • Taking selfies with the giant pumpkin in Courthouse Plaza 🎃
  • Exploring the Haunted Hotel (if I’m brave enough!)
  • Browsing the Halloweentown Marketplace for fall goodies
  • Catching the Pumpkin Lighting Ceremony at night
  • Doing a little exploring in costume 👻
  • Visiting filming locations from Halloweentown, Twilight, and The Ring

Costume contests, spooky snacks, and Halloween magic? Yes, please! This town goes all out, and I can’t wait to share every glowing pumpkin and spooky detail with you.

🌊 Sunday Adventure: Cannon Beach

Before my midnight flight back to Arkansas, I’m sneaking in a dreamy day trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon—famous for its towering Haystack Rock and moody Pacific Coast vibes. It’s about a 1 hour and 45-minute drive from St. Helens, and totally worth the trip.

I’m planning to:

  • Walk the shoreline near Haystack Rock (as seen in the movie The Goonies)
  • Explore the local shops and grab some hot chowder
  • Take photos that look like they belong on a postcard
  • Soak in the fresh, salty air before heading back inland

October is the perfect time for foggy skies, fewer crowds, and that crisp fall beach feeling. You better believe I’ll have my camera ready!

🌊 Bonus Stop: Multnomah Falls

On the way to the airport, I’m squeezing in one more iconic Oregon sight—Multnomah Falls. If you watched the first Twilight movie, you’ve seen it before—it’s the breathtaking waterfall in the background when Edward is tree-leaping with Bella. It’s only about 45 minutes from Portland and makes a perfect farewell to the Pacific Northwest.

Whether you’re a movie fan, nature lover, or just want a picture-perfect moment, this 620-foot cascade is a must-see.

🧳 Travel Tips If You’re Planning the Same Weekend Escape

  • Book your Spirit of Halloweentown tickets early—popular events sell out
  • Dress in layers—October in Oregon means cool, damp weather
  • Bring comfy shoes for walking (and ghost hunting!)
  • Allow extra time for traffic on Hwy 26 if you’re beach-bound
  • Pack a costume and don’t forget your camera!
